Todd, you need to get hold of Shifty too. Username is oakview. His real name is Dave.

Levi,

Here is your current title: <title>Levi the Tile Guy - Custom Tile &amp; Stone</title>

It could say: <title>Levi the Tile Guy, Grand Junction, Colorado -- Tile Showers and Floors</title>

We'll get to the description tag later.

Roberto, my old site was that way. It was "homey." But smarter people finally talked me into doing away with it. It was holding us back.

Levi, if your login box has been removed to make your site look like...what ever, type in your web url and after the .com add /wp-login.php so it reads .com/wp-login.php.Hit enter, the login box will open. You will still need your user name and password of course. Go to settings Click on General At the very top it will read "Site Title" Add what ever descriptive information you feel necessary. This box will not change what is viewed on your website, but what the bots see. I kept my company name and added products and services I provide, separated by the "," comma.

My question: is there a point where it is too much?

Edit, after all that go to your site and view page source and confirm you have the info you want in your title line. Worked for me.

I will reiterate what John has said and this is very important information. Your site can look great but looks don't get people to it, the code does. I learned a plethora of priceless information from JB yesterday. This is a matter I think people are not taking serious and you need to. We have some very successful people here who are using the SEO and getting a lot of people to their sites.

Levi, I would be bugging the person who did your site because it is incomplete if you do not do the things JB is telling you. He was once in our shoes as for his website. Only your web person can access the server to make the changes to your source code unless you have access to the server your site is on and know what your doing.

What I have realized is there are web designers and there are designers who know how to utilize SEO. I now know what it is and without it my site ain't gonna do much. Nice to look at but not gonna draw people in. This is very important for those of you and myself to do. Something very minute as for how long it will take to add but huge if you don't do it.

I'll say what he said, locally your site should be #1 at the top. Do this, put in your info for your locale and see if your site comes up. If not view the source code on the other websites to see what tags they are using. Robots read those tags. You have to put yourself in the position of the potential customer. What are they typing into google? That is what you need there on the source code. Hope I made sense.

One last thing: All of you should be trading links with each other.
How can we make a community list for everyone who wants to trade links?

I knew nothing about web pages and the source code, what I learned yesterday is gonna be game changing for me. When JB is talking about websites... listen.

I have to wait for when my webguy gets back from vacation and then I will be forwarding the first post John made in this thread. Just to make the point it is lacking the SEO. He'll either say he knows or he doesn't. This has to get done and I am hoping he just didn't get to it yet. We talked about this when I met up with him originally but he didn't explain it a way I could understand like the boss did here.

What I posted above took less than 2 minutes, between logging in and typing what I wanted and hitting the update button. If you use wordpress you are fortunate. It can be very overwhelming at first, but the direction I gave above will work for the title line.
I also want to add, something learned from JB a while back..... The bots do not visit websites every day. Up to John to talk about that if he chooses to. Point is, once you have added key words to your title line, don't expect to be on the front page of google instantly or even over night......

Yes, I have basically wasted the last year of my new websites life. Very grateful for this discussion.

Like JB says, ignore me.

Somehow, I've managed to generate over 100,000 views on just one of my youtube videos.

I am at the top when I search for tile contractor or installer Grand Junction, CO. but not when I search for tile showers or tile floor, or even more specific searches.

Add those keywords to your title line, can't hurt. Did you find my post above on the login Levi? Took a look at your site and didn't see the login box. I don't have one either and that is what I type to access it.

Yes Jack I figured it out. I still have the email from my designer that tells me how to login. I changed the stuff, but put it in the tagline. It still comes up under title when I check the source though

Looks like you added tile showers and tile floors to your title. That looks good. Might want to expand a little. Not sure, waiting to hear back from JB on that. I may have put too much in mine...? I think you got it. Just a matter of how much to put there. I'm waiting to learn how to do the meta, and how much should actually be in the title line

we both started our websites pretty much the same time.
