Hi, former active member, trying to get involved again.

Hi, I am Jim Whitfield. Currently, the Director of Technical Services at MAPEI. We have other excellent product support members on here like "MAPEI-Technical Department". So, I don't mean to interfere, only contribute when needed.

My background is in tile installation in the Chicago and Colorado markets, many years ago. Than I moved into sales of setting materials for 20+ years. I went to a Product Manager for Florida Tile and was responsible for the Tech Manual, packaging, displays and supporting documents for their GPT (Gauged Porcelain Tile) Thinner product line. I left to go to work with MAPEI. Today, I manage a strong Technical Services group that provides support for MAPEI’s many products for; Tile and Stone Installation Systems, Floor Covering Installation Systems and Products for Wood Flooring. Actively involved in the development of tile industry standards as current President of the MMSA (Materials, Methods and Standards Assoc.), TCNA and ANSI committees and a proud member of the NTCA Technical Committee.

Welcome aboard, Jim.

Roberto, if you want information about a particular product, how 'bout you start a separate thread for that aside from this introductory thread.

Those of you that know Jim know that he's being a bit humble about his contributions to the industry. He works tirelessly with architects, designers, and the installation community to educate on the industry standards and methods that set the tile industry apart from other floor and wall coverings. He is a sought after speaker at Coverings, Surfaces, and AIA events. He does webinars for NTCA, CTDA, and other groups all while doing a more than full time job running MAPEI's Technical Services group. He also writes articles (like this one on commercial kitchens) and has done more to successfully advance the installation of Gauged Porcelain Tile and Panels in the US market than just about anyone. Welcome Jim, glad to have you back!

Well maybe you can confirm that the arrows on the bottom of some tiles are supposed to point North. And if you run your drill backwards you can un mix thinset..

Thank you all, for the welcome!

Dan (Metropolitan Ceramics), thank you for your kind words. I am extremely fortunate to have had the career path I took. Couldn't be happier than to be here at MAPEI, now just over 5 years.

eurob are you from Canada? I ask because the Keraflex line was launched there in 2019 (I know, it seems so long ago). 5 products: Keraflex SG (good), Keraflex RS (rapid set), Keraflex Plus (better) and Keraflex Super (best). The MAPEI Canadian team did a large promo of the line which included many demos. To me, it reminds me of the Ultraflex line but reformulated with today's technology; they are LHT (Large and Heavy Tile mortars, formally known as Medium Bed) mortars, that can be in a thin-set application. The new technology leads itself to being; more creamy, easier to trowel, non-slump, and improved polymer technology. I hope that brief explanation helps. As Kelly suggested, we can open another post if necessary.

Eric (E3) WT_?

Thank you kindly for answering Jim.
And yes , I’m in Canada .For now , it is just about enough , and I probably misread the intended purpose of the ‘’ trying to get involved Again ‘’ , in the title of the thread.

If all of the keraflex Line has top non slump capabilities, that’s Good to know.
