Markng Backs of Tile to indicate position

I need to do a temporary layout of the border tile near where I locate my wet saw then move the layout to near where it will be installed.

My question is can I mark a code to show location on the back of the tile with a Sharpie? Will doing this cause me any issues with it darkening the mastic then give me issues when applying the white grout?

Thanks

George, this the same Ditra floor with 13" tiles you've been working on?

You're really planning to set them with organic adhesive (aka mastic)?

Stick some blue tape on the face of the tiles and mark the blue tape.

CX, I am not working on the floor at this time. That will be after I complete the kitchen backsplash which is where I need to mark the border tile.

Long as you keep the sharpie away from the tile edges I don't think you'll have a problem, but a #2 pencil is safer. Lou's suggestion of using blue tape eliminates any concern. You can use very narrow tape on your very narrow tiles, eh?

My opinion; worth price charged.
