If I understand you correctly, I'd push the vanity top against the wall, then set tiles so they sit on the vanity top. But I'm not sure why you'd have tile under the vanity top, so maybe I don't understand your picture.

Jeff - I’m referring specifically to the sides. My vanity sits in an alcove between the shower divider wall and outside bathroom wall. The back I will just tile up to the vanity top as you say. But on the sides the walls stick out about a foot past the front face of the vanity plus there’s a gap between the vanity walls and the actual walls so it would all have to be tiled on both sides from floor up.

OK, of course I would do the sides of the vanity top the same as the back wall.

How wide is the gap between the vanity cabinet and the walls, Benjaminn?
If you install the cabinet and vanity top, then tile around them, will you be able to get the tile far enough in on the sides so the back edge of the tile isn't seen?

Dan - the gap is small - about 3/8” on each side. I was thinking of dry fitting the vanity and marking where the top sits, then removing it and tiling up to the bottom of the vanity top mark on the walls. Go maybe 6 inches or so in from the front face of the vanity to hide that edge. Then sliding it back into place and tiling around the front edge and top part of the vanity top.
But now thinking about it, it may not be as easy if I end up with a tile that needs to be cut out to “hug” the vanity top. I’d have to squeeze it into place through that tiny 3/8” gap.

I dunno, Benjaminn, is the 3/8" gap on each end before tile or after tile?

That’s before the tile. Might just be easier to rip two filler strips of pine and paint match best I can.

Has anyone found an elegant way to recess electrical boxed into subway tile? My subway tile is wavy textured and the plate covers won't sit nice and flush which annoys me.
I was thinking maybe using one of those square edged screwless plate covers and just neatly recessing it with the tile and then running a bead of grout colored caulk between the plate and the tile surround?
Any ideas? It's a 4-gang box. Thanks.

On outside corners where one wall is tiled and the other isn’t, do you still install a corner bead?

I would.
But I would not use a typical metal corner bead. I'd use a paper faced metal corner bead.
I got nuttin for ya regarding the wall plate challenge.

How 'bout a link to one of those, Benjamin? Once again I appear to be out of touch.
The only "elegant" way I've ever found to use electrical box cover plates on a really nice tile backsplash is to move the electrical boxes to the bottom of the upper cabinets and eliminate them from the backsplash all together. Customers give the concept mixed reviews.
My opinion; worth price charged.

I'm guessing the screwless cover is something like this, CX.

Yes, the screwless cover is as Dan posted. It basically snaps onto the box - there’s a thin sandwiched plate that gets screwed onto the open box and then the snap on cover pops onto that.
Reason I mention that specifically is because those covers don’t taper towards the wall around its perimeter like a normal cover does.. It’s a 90 degree angle between the cover edge and the wall and so could work nicely if recessed just right into tile. That’s just an idea I had.
Really don’t want to rip the drywall and move the box, but if I have to….

Interesting. Glad none of my customers ever axed for those or I woulda been embarrassed, yes? 'Specially as I was the electrician of record on most all my new construction and remodel.
