mitered corners

i am FINISHING my bathroom renovation and am getting ready to lay ceramic, subway tiles. i have a knee wall on the non-drain side of the tub and need to tile the outside corners with subway tiles. they dont come in bullnose so i need to miter the corners. how close should the mitered edges be? the same gap as the rest, or almost touching? will they chip from the saw when i cut them?

I like a joint of about 1/8th inch on that sort of corner, or the width of a grout joint if smaller.

you could trim them with a metal edge, schluter makes many.

Miters are tough to get straight and chip free. Sometimes we cut them "close" and grind back to the line with a belt sander or grinder to get a clean line. Trim of many shapes and configurations are available and are often an easier solution..but you may have to be creative to match your style and tile.

We usually shrink the grout joint on miters to half that of the field tile..I just think it looks neater to have tight miters.Just personal preference.

Consider that cutting the tiles is not the only time you can chip them. Exposed corners like that are easily damaged. Isn't there a trim tile that compliments the subways and doen't expose a thin edge of glaze to traffic?

Mmmmm, Injineer Bob? Most of us in these parts takes off our clothes and boots afore gettin' inna shower. Don't chip a lotta tiles that way.

We warsh the tractor up by the shop where we warsh the peek-ups, of course. Like civilized folk. Don't take'em inna house fer pitty's sake.

I've found that if you leave the blade back off the corner of the tile about 1/32-1/16, it won't chip near as bad. If the blade gets out onto the glaze, it will chip.

thanks everyone who resonded to my question. this site is very helpful.i like the idea od adding an edge. never thought about the damage the tiles could get on the corners. cutting off the glaze is an idea too. now my head is spinning
