Onyx shower base with tile wall

I'm going to install a Onyx walk in shower base and tile the walls. I will be using Hardibacker 500 on the walls. Onyx recommends 1/8 inch spacing between the base and stud wall and the Hardiebacker should be 1/4 inch above the base. What would be the best the best way to proceed, vapor barrier behind the Hardiebacker or use Redguard applied to the Hardiebacker? Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forum, Mitch.

A surface applied waterproofing layer is always superior to one that is behind the wall board.

Thanks, that's the decision I've come to.
