This is why I mentioned using a straight edge. When I use SLC to level a floor I'm basically filling the low areas 1/4 inch and less. It won't level out well when poured thin like Jim said.

A floor machine that has course sand paper will chew it up but it'll be dusty. Home Depot rents them. If you have just a high spot, the machine might work. If it's up and down all over, I'm not sure what to advise.

Post mortem

Been a while, meant to do this sooner. Finished my floor shortly after my last lost. Wound up doing a second pour which, while not perfect, leveled the floor close enough to tile. Used a very thin layer and kept it minimal. When tiling, used a bit kg extra thin set where needed and clamped tile with arches and wedges. Very, very pleased with results. Nearly zero lip page or issues. Gonna try to post lots. Thanks to everyone who made suggestions and helped with info, it all helped!!
