Ditra to 2x4?

Hopefully this is an easy question. I am curious if Ditra can be thinset straight to a 2 x 4 without plywood? I have a knee wall that had to be redone and need to attach new wall tile and give a slight bit of room for the door to swing shut past. Thanks.

ditra on the wall? that is not really meant for that. Do you mean kerdi? Yes it will bond, but it is not best practice. Dimensional lumber is not very stable in that it swells, shrinks, twists, expands, etc. I would use kiln dried wood that you have stored inside for a bit to acclimate it to the environment.

You'd be better off to trim back the lumber a bit.

Can you post a picture of the area so we can see exactly what you're trying to do?

The likelihood is that over a season or two, things will become loose. Plywood and things like CBU are much more stable.
