Im familiar with the butt to butts method, but I was taught which side is the doorknob on when you are looking at the hinges?

I do agree with CX that it varies depending on who you're talking to. I'm repeating what I learned in apprenticeship school: United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, aka carpenters' union. Lo, these many long years ago.

Let's get technical. There are four door swing options.
Left Hand
Left Hand Reverse
Right Hand
Right Hand Reverse
