That kind of rock is fun sometimes. But whn it gets to where your on a ladder or scaffolding inside it is terrible. Up and down to trim pieces in. Pays off to have someone on the ground to run cuts.

This is a note I received from my now completed work in progress customer:
Hi Dan,
HOLLY CRAPOLI!! Looks soooooo freaken good! I can't believe how well it all turned out. The topper was the master, the back splash look insan-o!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! We really appreciate your skill and talents.
I am headed home tonight and will be at the house for the morning on Tuesday. Can we meet up so I can get you paid up?? Do we owe you more for doing the master backsplash??
Thank you again for doing such great work and making this happen. We are so stoked and really appreciate it soooo very much.

I'm still a little in shock that she is asking if she has to pay me for something that she sprung on me at 5:30 on Sat. evening. And of course I agreed to return sunday and do the small slate backsplash (rapid set), seal it, wait for it to dry, and grout it.
Not even sure how to respond.

Missed this thread for a few days and I missed a lot.
Dan- Nice to see you get some appreciation from a client. Follow Gueuze's advice.
Greg- Very impressive work, good to see that coal money going to a good cause. (your wallet)

Spoken like a true Yankees fan. Don't know if you are but I am so anytime I see trash talk about Boston I appreciate it.
Even though Boston is a pretty cool city. (I'm 1/2 Irish)
Joe- nice bunk bed. Kids look real happy.
I've been busy recently but mainly some straight forward 13" beige porcelain jobs. I am working on a nice travertine job which I will have to post. But like Joe did I must post a picture of my most important work in progress. They love playing in the mud and with my rubber mallet. They found the grout float great fun too. Maybe I will be able to retire someday.

Dan,
I would tell her I charge double for Saturday work but since your nice I won't charge you as much.
Chad,
I hear you about up and down the ladder. I have a full house front that I'm bidding, 1100 foot of stacked stone, going to need scaffolding. Probably hire a couple crews and supervise.

Brian outside you'll be cake cause you cut with a grinder up on scaffolding. Just need someone to load the stone.
I meant interior because you really do have to cut outside unless it's new construction and that's even iffy

Maybe she thinks you are throwing that in as a bonus project Seeing that she only sprung it on you Sat. evening and came back Sunday all day. I think most of us would be ...normal price X 2 for being on a Sunday. Maybe even times three since she asked if she has to pay.
I know in a perfect world she would be handing you a generous check without having to ask. I don't think she was asking if she has to pay, just that she wants to pay. Did you post this stuff in this thread, don't see the work
Isaac, see you got yourself two little helpers

Very nice note Dan, could make charging for the backsplash awkward, I hate those times. I am usually pretty good about pulling out blank change orders if customers add work for me, but a few times I haven't and never even discussed a price with them made me feel awkward when it came time to bill them.

Heres one i never tried before, 24x24 squares surrounded by 3/4 hickory wood, it had old 8x8 tile laid on top of plywood which came out very easy but the ply they had screwed and glued and that was .
We then came in with 1/4 permabase and the new tile which is a 11 5/8 x 11 5/8 porcelain, it leaves approx. 1/4 joint at the tile and around the perimiter.
