Im glad Im getting the message out there. The dust in mostly all the products we use can be detrimental to our health. Its overlooked in a major way because the harm is not immediate its long term. The damage we do to our lungs is irreversable. You can't go down into your lung crevices and scrape off the silica build up.

Its funny, because all of the tile "get-togethers" Ive been to over the years,Im always the only one wearing respirable protection.I was doing the CTEF test, and not only were the other guys taking the test mixing inside, they were also making dry cuts with the grinder.Even Stephanie Samulski(author CTEF test study book)asked me about my mask. She said dust once and a while wont hurt you.I just smiled thru my mask and continued. In my head I was like,"Uhhhh, who the F around here is once and a while? Were all contractors who do this every freakin day!!!!!"Funny, because in the 1st part of the book(Safety portion) dust isnt mentioned at all.

Its alright with me,though,to be the only one in the crowd protecting my lungs.I know that out of everything that I do in this profession the damage done to my lungs can be the worst.Your lungs are critical,my friends.God only gave you one pair. What is more important than breath?

http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/consilic.html

Here we go.Tile installer (age 49) silicosis.Doing tile for 23 years. What a shame.Im sure all of us have some build up.Perhaps some more than others. Its not like you get the disease from one time exposure. Its a gradual build up.Even if you dont ever get full blown silicosis you can permanently have those silica nodules imbedded down there. Now,Im no doctor but, common sense tells me that the less I breath the better I am over all.

LT, nice work. I'm looking forward to the article. That youtube video link you posted about the Italian stoneworkers in the early 1900's was sad but really helped impress how bad silicosis is. I typically wear a N-95 respirator when mixing but get lazy sometimes.

I just got a whale tale in the mail today too.
