tub/shower combo

Good morning, I have studied with great interest your website and related information. I am a do-it your selfer in central Canada, I am currently building my own house. At the present time I am completing the drywall and I need to think seriously about my bathrooms.
One bathroom in particular, I have designed to be somewhat custom, which looking at your work, you specialize in quite a bit.
As you are full aware custom is just another word for creative, and building custom applications drives you to creative solutions.
What I have designed is a bath/shower combination, the room will be approx. 5'x6' containing a jet tub along the backwall and a shower area in beside it, with a sliding door allowing access into the shower area.
I have studied the Oatey website on their pan installations, and I have compared it to your method, how do you feel about their method?
My floor in this area is 5/8" tongue and groove, glued and screwed, with 2x10 @ 16 o.c., will this be adequate or should I install a thicker sub-floor.
As this is a second floor bathroom, I am concerned about any and all possibilities of leaks, this is my first jet tub, its an eight jet with
all the plumbing exposed on the outside of the tub, are these tubs reliable as far as being leak proof?

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Its nice to see a knowledgeable information backed website for a change!
