Tile Letter
I have been reading these forums for sometime now. Like many here and not, I am concerned with our trade. Another member metioned in the bad tile pic thread about the cover of the tile letter. Look at it yourself.
I expect any originization in which we contribute our hard earned dollars too to hold their advertisers to a standard that we are all held to. I've been to the NTCA seminars with Gerald Sloan as he preached the need to comb mortar in the same direction. Even the clear glass tiles to prove the reason. Now look at the cover.
This is a rant at best but focus on the art of this trade.

The industry grows as the trade dies. I don't have the cover in front of me...please explain.
And welcome!

I have the May 2010 issue you are referring to in front of me! I will see Mr. Gerald Sloan on Tues. evening and give him the issue and ask him what is wrong with the picture, hopefully he doesn't read this thread beforehand! Or maybe I should wait till he addresses the importance of combing thinset in the same direction as opposed to the swirling technique used on the cover. I would assume it was overlooked, or maybe they didn't have pics to choose from so they had to use what they were given by Merkrete since the spotlight was on them for this issue. If ya are reading this Gerald, have a safe trip up and lookin forward to your workshop.

Mistake
Yes it was a mistake that got overlooked. There was deadline to meet and it got overlooked for the sake of a deadline. It has been discussed amongst the executive committee this past week and it will not happen again. The cover is indicative of what we are trying to represent. I apologize for what you received. Every once in while mistakes will be made. If corrections and positives come out of it we can grow from them. Thanks for your comments and observations.
Sincerely John Cox

Combing thinset in the same direction? If I would have heard that at any seminar I would have been laughing out loud. Not intentionally. It would have slipped out.
More important is the open bag of thinset in someone's finished kitchen. And why would you have some backwards hat punk on the face of your mag?

Who you calling backwards hat punk Jerry, it was an honor for me to be on that installation shoot. We didn't actually set the tile, we were hired by Merkrete. Everything was already set up on the stage. I have my hat reversed so I can see what I'm doing....lol
No like JC said it was overlooked. Not to make light of it but they have deadlines to meet and if Merkrete wanted that pic on the cover and they are footing the bill for advertising then so be it. I have to defend my people up there at the NTCA. Looks like vendors need to be educated as well as the rest of the chain. I think maybe Merkrete should be educating they're people on proper installation, safety, and open container issues on the job.
And why isn't he using the TLS with those large format tiles....lol

All I gotta say is if y'all don't like the picture on the front cover don't look at the inside photos.
Has anybody used Mer-Krete? I've only seen it advertised in tile publications.
