Tile Installation "Acceptable" Specs

Does anyone know of an Ansi spec for tile variation in tile dimensions and overall acceptable installation.

We have done an installation that the owners are not accepting. The tiles are a tan 12x12 with dark gray/black grout. I feel the job is within acceptable standards but the owner/owners are looking for above standard installation.

Blue tape are areas I feel need work. The first picture had a mirror removed hence the silicone. The photo of the inside corner was deemed unaccepetable and they want all inside corners replaced throughout the job. All of which look like the one pictured. The shower photo is just another picture of unacceptable work. They want everything tore off and replaced!!

I feel I need a third party rep on this one!!

Its in the ANSI book, but I dont have the right book at home.If no one else post ,I'll try to remember when I get in the office .

From the pics, it looks fine.

This was a typical job!

Base was 1/8" bigger than field tile
Field tile was 1/8" bigger than Bullnose
Black mosaic was half the thickness of the field tile
Glass tile was half the thickness of the black mosaic.

For the materials that were spec'd I think my guys did a good job

I'm looking at the somewhat scary ANSI specs (for the crazy commercial world) and there is a long laundry list of specifics. I can't copy it, but what specifically are their concerns?

I always gripe about the conditions of the floors and walls to the supers, whether they merit it or not, because in all honesty a majority of work would be turned down if inspected with an ANSI book in hand.

thats a good looking job with what you explained about the tile sizes and thicknesses.
I would tell the owner to chat with the architect about why they made those selections and now they don't like it.

To be honest, the pictures are not close enough to the "problem" areas, if you could get pictures that are a bit tighter on the area it would be great

It's gotta be in A-3.3, but I'd have to know what the complaint is.

Looks plenty good compared to most commercial work I've seen.

What exactly is the complaint? Lippage, tile sizing, inconsistent grout widths?

Looks okay from here. One short comment on expectations. A builder I have worked with for years had a customer that wouldn't pay because the cabinet install, ( among other things of course), wasn't up to his expectations. The install was fine.

They went to court and the Judge ruled in favor of the contractor after seeing photos of the work and hearing testimony. The judge ruled that the job has to meet the reasonable expectations of the average consumer,not necessarily your expectations,( the complainer), which are too high.

Anybody could set their standards high enough, so that they wouldn't have to pay for anything.

I know you don't want to end up in court, I just wanted to add some words on a similar situation that may help you somehow.

The inside tiles look to be less than 1/2 tile? Why?

Like I mentioned the areas with blue tape are areas that I see wrong. Chipped edges from wet saw blade, misaligned tiles, bullnose a little off the edge.

Their complaints are the grout joints are inconsistent, inside grout joints are misaligned or not consistent, base tile joints are tighter than field tile (different size tile).
