Hi Justin, I'll move us to the Pro Hangout.

1/4 in sheetrock is usually used to create radius walls. The studs have to be fairly close together -- 4 to 6 inches apart. You can dampen the sheetrock before hanging it and use two or three layers. You could let that dry and then apply Kerdi.

I would float the wall, but I'm a mud man. If you have no experience with wall mud, use the sheetrock.

And i would add, you'll probably need to plumb the walls and add numerous spots of thinset to plumb it up otherwise you'll be in trouble lining up the tile as you go around and around and around

Nows a good time to learn Mudwork. You'll spend more time on this one,but you should learn to Mud radius's if your going to be a tileman.
Charge more and expect to earn less on this particular job.
Read everything in here you can find on Mudding walls(i recall we discussed Mudding radius walls about a year or 2 ago extensively in the hangout here)
You'll become a better tileman in the end

Would a radius wall still be at 16"o.c ? Are there any other special things to do when building a radius wall?

Randy, like John said the studs are normally 4-6 inches apart instead of 16. This is helpful, gives you plenty to nail to no matter which way you decide to install it.

curved shower wall

My husband did a ROUND bathroom a few years ago in polished marble. The house was an English Tudor wth a round turret the homeowners made into their Master Bath. I'm enclosing some photos (the proud wife!)

He put two layers of drywall and then mastic. Cut the 12" down to 4" for the diamond pattern.

Okay ... "mud", "mortar" and "mastic". They all begin with "M" and stick stuff down. Keith says to clarify: it was cement MORTAR (*not* mastic).
