Kerdi On Wood

I’m working on a large shower that has a beam running through it. I need to waterproof the beam with Kerdi membrane. Can I attach the Kerdi directly to the beam (Douglas fir) or do I need to wrap it first with a CBU?

No, you can't put kerdi on the beam. Are you planning to tile the beam? I think it may move to much..

It’s actually a header and not a beam sitting on doubled trimmers. It’s not going to move much. Guess I could go Ditra over it if there was a concern for movement. But, again, the same question, can it be attached directly to the beam/header.

Joe, you cannot apply either Kerdi or Ditra directly on dimension wood. If that's to be tiled, you need to wrap it with drywall or CBU before you apply the Kerdi.

My opinion; worth price charged.

Thanks CX. I will wrap it first with CBU.
