Troubling transitions and thresholds

Why are the available transition trims so damned expensive, and almost never what you need?
We are doing a great deal of LVT and laminates these days and even the matching trans strips are not quite satisfactory dissimilar materials.
How many go back to the shop and make your own? and what kind of pricing are you using?

TIA
Neil

I've just been using the laminate ones, even if they don't match perfectly, they're as good as the real ones.

I've made some out of oak before, but nobody wanted to pay what they were worth.

I make them out of oak because I don't like the bulkiness of the available laminate transition strips. I make them an inch an a half wide and about a quarter inch thick with well rounded top edges. They don't jump out at you; they just lay there looking elegant.

Looks good, John. I make my own out of oak, as well. Especially handy on height differences.
