Renovating Ensuite Bathroom

Hi
I'm new and looking for advice on finishing my ensuite bathroom. It's cement boarded and ready for he floor tray. I've decided to go with the Schluter prefab 32 x 60 tray except my new shower will also need a portion of the floor to be built up with a mortar bed.
My questions are these,
1) Can i use thinset mortar to finish the joints in the cementboard ?
2) Is finishing the joints really necessary if I'm going to use kerdi membrane ?
3) Should the joints be finished before or after installing the floor tray and mortar bed ?
4) I'm going to assume that corner bead is not necessary when tiling ?

Any help is much appreciated

JD

1) Yes, for all your taping use alkali resistant fiberglass mesh tape, and thinset.
2) I do, but not quite sure what schluter says somebody else in here can prolly answer that better
3) either
4) correct, if you are wrapping the corner with tile. If not it will be hard to finish, but I still tape my corners.

Welcome, JD.

1. See 2.

2. There is no need to finish any joints in CBU walls if they are to be covered with Kerdi. There is no need for the CBU walls, actually, sheetrock being the manufacturer's recommended backing material.

3. See 2.

4. No corner bead (not sure why a fella'd want that on CBU walls anyway) if you're gonna tile the corner. No tape if it's gonna be wrapped in Kerdi.

My opinion; worth price charged.
