I think Davy is talking about one of those rains where you draw a 30 inch circle on the ground, and chances are pretty good a rain drop will hit inside it.

I've been seeing way too many of those.

Well, at least we tell it like it is. So many of our yankee friends like to exaggerate about all that snow they get.

Wish I were exaggerating about the time we got 30 inches in 24 hours. Or was it 24 inches in 30 hours? Now I'm not sure, but I guarantee I knew at the time.

Sometimes them Yankees do get a whole gaggle of snow all at once, Davy. As a kid I can recall shoveling three feet off the roof of our house so's it would be less likely the roof would become one with the floor. And having to get up on the snow banks beside the driveway to shovel off the top so we could shovel more off the driveway.

Boerne, Texas, weather is just fine with moi. Hunnert-plus heat, floods and all.

Heaviest rain I know of was 2008 and it was coming down at a reported 29 inches per hour. Only got 5-6 inches of rain total...but it was all within 10-15 minutes. Onliest time I got water in the basement (that's the floor below the first floor for all y'all Southerners ).

House mate at one time had a copy of a book called "excessive rainfall in Texas"

Government publication at some level, and put out back in the 20'S (???) if I recall correctly. Described and charted some really amazing storms. Seems like Harvey was not all that unusual. Tropical systems seem to stall out and dump all that rain in one area.

Good grief, the wind is about 40 knots and the rain is hitting the windows like small rocks. 4 foot rollers in the bay. Wave height offshore is 16 ft.

I sure as hell don't crave personal info from anyone, but you described some conditions that can only exist near an ocean. I'm a dry land weather reporter.

I like the disclaimer “do not use this map to make decisions”. I’ll just use it to look at the pretty colored lines. If, I repeat, if, the storm does follow the predicted cone; I’m glad I have a waterproof shower. It can make all sorts of twists and turns over the next week (the storm, not the shower).
