Looks like our five day bliss is ending and the 100 degrees returns tomorrow or Wednesday.

But Mother Nature is giving a couple more bursts of desert foliage in the pitchers below.

The saguaros started popping this week and should be in full bloom any day now. But the heat will knock those down fast.

I just returned from the southeastern part of our lovely state. It's just a little smoky over that way. Here in SoWeGA we are in full fledge drought and have been under red-flag (no-burn) warnings for almost forever. Right now it's even more serious that ever. Have already had some fires over here but have been able to contain without too much damage. Lost about 65 acres just a couple of counties over this past weekend.

This just posted on local web site..

Well, SE Georgia and northern Florida are polluting our skies again today! I stepped outside a few minutes ago and it is really hazy and you can smell the smoke. On top of that, we are under an Ozone Action Alert for the Upstate. Not a good day to be working outside. The temp is 88 degrees and the humidity is 25%. Here's a picher from the CU Campus.

Thats funny, it was 87 degrees with 22 humidly earlier today on its way up to 89 and we said thank goodness its nice out today. Can't complain too much the weatherguesstimators say we should be floating around just this side of 100 for the next few weeks. Up in Phoenix they will be floating on the wrong side of 100, but they get a bit less humidity so it sort of works out. The only problem is that this is still summer1 for us Arizonans, when summer2 starts It gets really hot. Why is it exactly that people keep moving here?

This is penance for gloating about not shoveling snow, and for us complaining about it being freezing at 53 degrees.

That's pretty much what it looked like over here yesterday afternoon. Fasten your seat belt Clyde, it's gonna get worse. Here's the latest update:

May 23, 2007

UNDATED (AP) - Officials say two large forest fires that started in southeast Georgia have merged in the Okefenokee Swamp -- creating one tremendous wildfire.

Fire has blackened more than 473,000 acres of forest and swampland in drought-stricken Georgia and north Florida. Commercial timber losses are estimated at well over $30 million. One fire -- known as the Sweat Farm Road Fire -- started April 16th when a tree fell onto a power line near Waycross. The second blaze -- called the Bugaboo Fire -- started by lightning in the Okefenokee on May Fifth and rapidly spread into Florida.

Yesterday, a task force monitoring the blazes for the two states said the fires in Georgia have burned more than 350,000 acres, and nearly 123,000 acres in Florida.

For the second time in a week, southeast winds brought smoke from the fires near the Georgia-Florida line into north Georgia Tuesday. Forecasters said wind swinging to the east later in the day should bring fresher air from the Atlantic and the Carolinas, and that a front moving through the area today also should bring some relief.

Smoke is really bad again today. Our weather radio goes off several times per week now. Oh how I wish they were advising of a thunder storm. We get smoke alerts. Today is the worst yet. Advised to stay inside if at all possible. Visability is .25-.5 miles and most are driving with their lights on.

There was just a hint of smoke smell in the air yesterday or Monday, can't remember which. (Must be old age! ) The sky was fairly clear, but I didn't hear anything on the news about local fires. Had the same faint aroma that we had on the 22nd. I hate to see our water bill for this month. Just trying to keep the shrubs alive and the new concrete wet down twice a day.
At least we have an irrigation water meter so we don't pay sewer fees on top of it.

Drought is horribly bad here. Aquifers are at a twenty year low. Wish people would honor the watering bans.

Hit up about 80 here in Federal Way (Seattle). My brother is complaining about the heat. This is nice spring weather for us. It's probably about a hundred in Houston.

The NW sounds a bit chilly...over 100 here. We may need to bring winter clothes in June for the BarBQ.

The fires raging around this country in May make the official wildfire season to come feel ominous. We have another one near Forest Lakes/Heber. And this one is ALSO human caused. The folks that tame these beasts have my utmost respect.
