Talking

"Probably be slush by Christmas, you do remember slush don't you?"

Slush. That quaint but provincial drink one might buy at a convenience store?

I'm gonna remember all of these jokes next July. When the State of Texas is in the middle of it's latest 47 day heat wave. After 18 hours now, the worst is yet to come.

Steve, we're on the back end of the storm here. It will end.

Davy, how the hell are you going to attach a snowplow to that Harley?

Hey there Sonnie, don't tell me you don't get your share of snow and ice there in Big D.

Jim, that would be a sight to see.

I'm about 35 miles Northeast of Dallas, we get ice 3 or 4 times a year normally with a little snow thrown in. Seems like we have alot of close calls during the winter, it'll rain like mad at 33-34 F. It'll only last a few days before it all melts. There are always exceptions, like 1983 when it stayed below freezing for two weeks straight. That nearly killed us.

Yeah, I remember alot of frozen pipes and impossible to get water on the jobs we had going that were new construction. Even with the heat on in the houses the pipes were frozen in the ground. We went and bought trash cans, filled them at home and hauled them to Dallas so we could work. See, we have it tough too.

Patti and I have been known to drive great distances to have dinner. Why don't we all meet in the center of the triangle formed by Dallas, Austin and Houston? I imagine we could draw quite a few folks. Sonnie said he'd buy.

Wait, let me look at the map. There might not be anything out there.

Call your ol' buddy Shrub, I'm sure he'd let y'all use his place there in Crawford.

Or I bet the old Branch Davidian compound is not being used much these days.

Lotta good places there around Waco, doncha know.

We should probably start a thread.....

Waco is [close] to center. John and Patti will have the toughest drive, so I think the rest of us should pitch in and buy their meal. Not bad for me, hell by the time I get out of the metro, I'm in Waco then Austin's just a suburb.

Asides, there's danger of dry counties down there and ya gotta watch out which side the river you be eatin' on. I know there's some great BBQ and Texican stuff 'round there. I spent a few years there growin' up. There's a little history, aside from the more recent cookoff that Jim mentioned. Very little,... but hey.... uhhh Baylor's there, right??? Gotta figure.. huge Baptist University and a huge Methodist children's home right there.... ain't it quaint?

Down the road the Bosque and Brazos come together. But I think weather's not gonna be a figerrin' into this equator...... Jan's cold I don't care which state you from. Let's do a search for a good place to meet there.

I'm starting a new thread in the deep end.

Well, it appears the Canadians and other sundry Yankees have once again conspired to cause me to pull my long-sleeve shirt off the door knob. 'Sposed to get down to nearly freezing tonight, and they're saying it might not hit sixty tomorrow.

I've only got one question: If you like it so much livin' up there, why don't you keep it to yourselves? I came down here to get away from all that.
