Radius border tile vs. Bullnose radius
Is it practical to use radius border tile as the finished outside edge of my planned shower walls? I guess I don't understand how the extra "depth" of the bullnose radius comes into play, nor how to install them...
Also, it seems to me, using just the radius edge would subject your project to showing the depth of the thinset along the finished edge, no?
Thanks again to all!

Use the Bullnose tile when the tile is set directly over the sheetrock.
In cases where CBU has been added to the sheetrock, the extra thickness of the CBU will be an issue at the edge. This is where the radius bullnose comes in . The big tile places refer to it as an A4200 trim piece

Hi Dave, Welcome.
People who do mud showers call it "mud cap." If your wall is flush with the sheetrock you would not use it. You would instead use "surface bull nose," which is flat with only an edge rounded over.

John: Thanks, my tile will be flush with the sheetrock, so I will use the rounded over finish tile and in fact have it in my hand even as I speak. I still wonder, though, will I be able to see the tile adhesive behind the border tile as I look down the wall? Make any sense?

Hi Dave and welcome. If I understand you correctly, stop the thinset back from the edge 1/4-1/2 inch and grout the joint along the radius edge.

Davy: You understand *exactly*. And, that's the answer...seems so simple, but it had not crossed my mind!
Thanks again.
I am starting to get the confidence necessary, which is a good thing, because I am looking at quite a few cartons of wall and floor tile in front of me.

Dave, you might check out "shower constuction" in the liberry. You can add on this thread any questions you might have each step of the way.

Dave Z,
You got at least one good side kick in Davey shootin' you straight here. You're good to go. Stand around a while, look impotent, and double check all your substrates. Do a pan leak check, it helps you sleep late at night (unlike me apparently). If Davey don't do you right, send him my way..... it ain't but a New Orleans field goal away from my place
