I'm ripping out the floor in a hallway to put down the proper subfloor and underlayment/CBU. When I took the saddle out of the hallway/bathroom I see now why the tile in the bathroom is popping off the floor and cracking. They laid the tile directly on the 3/4" subfloor over the joists. Nice work there Hackamoto

Wow - Tile Repair
I just can't believe that someone would do this. Had to repair some tile the other day, this tile had come loose and when pulled it out and looked at the back, no wonder why!! Knocked around on floor and it seems half of the floor was done this way, atleast it all sounded hollow.

Here's one from a while ago that I forgot to put up until now..
Unfortunately it is at my parents house. Before anyone asks why I didn't do it in the first place - the work was done when I was 12 years old.
I believe that is the tried and true "liquid nails spot method" technique.
I informed the "clients" that a gut job was in order due to the obvious lack of care that was taken with this install and likelihood of continued problems.
They asked me to "fix it," which I did, involving products and techniques that would not be found in the TCNA handbook. (the details of which will not be divulged here)

A recently built fast-food chain restaurant on the island. I have no idea who the tile contractor was. I hope it is not a Maui based contractor. Yes it looks like warped tile was specified by this major chain, and the idea for wall wash lighting was not a good one.
The 1/3 offset was used but doesn't appear to help. Also efflorecense showing up already. I don't know the exact build date but less than a year old.
If it was just warped tile at least the lippage should follow a consistent pattern.
I had driven by before during the day time and it looked ok, but at night time . . .
Another franchise of the same chain restaurant was just renovated on my side of the island. It may or may not have been the same tile contractor. The same tile was installed on parts of the exterior veneer. The installation method was Durock, then Aquadefense with fabric reinforcing on the joints. They set the tile with Mapei Ultraflex 2, so far so good.
But then they set the exterior veneer with the dot set method. Our area does not get freeze thaw but does get plenty of rain.

Not the worst. Pretty average I'd say
Even with one heck of a pre-slope, this shower started leaking at about the 10 year mark. Old for a shower in Houston. The upper mud layer filled the weep holes, along with the lime scale buildup from our municipal water.
I really liked the liner on the bench and curb. The lath staples only made little holes in the liner.
Not sure if you can see the standing water between the 1/4" trowel notches in the pre-slope, still there after a month of inactivity.
