Funny, a client of mine commented on this at GW and sent me the link telling me how happy she was that she found me and not a guy like this.
I posted the link on my Facebook last week. How horrible!

The condo complex had to replace plumbing in the walls. So the tub was removed and a strip of tile on the back wall. The plan was for the GC to patch it back with similar stone.
But tiles that were not supposed to be removed fell off. Wonder why?
Dot set, drywall screws, 1 5/8" studs 24" oc. But they did waterproof. Must tub surrounds we rip out here are just cbu over studs with no moisture barrier behind or waterproof membrane on top.
The last picture is the wainscot area.
I gave them a quote for complete replacement.

What's sad, Isaac, is that the aesthetics of that shower don't look horrible, at least from the pic. I always tell folks you can have the most beautiful shower in the world, but if the prep/methods used aren't right, well... we see where that gets ya.
Was that installed by HD's guys, Brian?

The greasy black grout almost makes the black drain go unnoticed.

About 5 years ago in my own house..
I used an unmodified thinset, well over its pot life. With dot set on plywood toe kick with no space between it and the floor. And if there were space it wouldnt matter because I grouted it anyhow.
They keep falling off... Weird hey?
Lol

Brian. What would cause the grout to turn up like that?

That's efflorescence from water stuck in the mud pan and other stuff
are minerals releasing from the slate and water in the home.

Wet cement for shower pan??
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiRF1DKP7rM
This sucks. This guys is pouring wet cement into shower pans. I like how he explains the shrinkage at the edges. wait tile it starts cracking.
DYI Beware. I wouldn't do my pan this way.

It is Ok if you let it sure for 21 days, but I seriously doubt he does that. Too bad to see someone who is obviously a skilled tradesman do something so silly.

This guy is a _______.I have unfortunately had the displeasure of seeing a couple of his videos.I think he is more like a comedy show.
Look at his pants. He has more coverage on them then his 24'' travertine tiles!I would hope thats from using the same pants for a week, but chances are thats from him floppin mortar all over the place from installing 10 sq ft!.
He waits til his level has all that mortar caked on the edges befor he plumbs his walls...

All these years and I been doing shower pans the "hard way", damn think of all the time I've wasted by not just scoring some backer and throwing down over a cesspool of mortar mix while I clog the weeps. I'll bet that shower smells great now. I especially like chopping at the pan with a pointing trowel. Good thing he had a well printed shirt on so we know who not to call for an install. I almost ashamed to admit I'm from the same state. Sad thing is, that dumb#^* Bob Villa hasn't a clue of the mini septic system he just had built there.
