Imagine, a tile failing off and hitting a person in the head.

Is your fountain leaking? All you have to do is add three more rows of tile.

This floor has been repaired twice already with the thinking that a sheet membrane will prevent cracking over the expansion joint between the slabs of this high rise complex.

Travertine is a really tough stone, right ?

Justin,

that tile has no thinset on it, therefore it wasn't subjected
to the movement stress. it will probably clean right up.

Just curious as to how people feel with the silicone under the toilet.

I am in the camp of "don't do it" so you can identify leaks quickly and prevent floor and structure damage quickly.

Many plumbers and sometimes tile setters that I come across say that it looks unfinished and cheap if you do not. Some even say that they would caulk around the visible areas but not the back area so the leak can be detected (which I get and have thought about doing) but many factors come into play as to how well the water would leak to become visible around the toilet.

It is a give and take for practicality and aesthetics in my opinion.

What's your opinion?

Why not just wrap the bottom with vinyl cove base to finish it off.

You just need a good cleaner to keep that caulk clean! That textured look is in now!
