What I find interesting is the plastic on the walls. Is it waterproofing?

Tempting to post on his wall, but I'd rather not get in a facebook posting fight with anyone. Amazed he has over 180 likes. Lack of waterproofing anywhere or attention to detail is amazing. He must be one smooth talker.

Chad I wondered that also, the problem is the average HO doesn't know what is right or what is wrong. We come in there and start telling them all the horror stories and they think we want to just charge them more money. We just want it to be done right and be able to sleep at night and people like this guy makes us all look bad. Educating all of the HO's on how to properly install a shower will hopefully benefit us in the long run. Maybe these people will see the light before they see the water leaking....

looks like those are garbage bags cut open for the water proofing on the walls.lol.

i give the shower 3 uses before it starts to leak. i think it will take a couple showers to get everything nice and saturated with water before it starts to leak out of the shower where you will notice it.

I just realized that that is 1/4 inch on the walls.
And I am wondering if he is planning on cutting around the finished fixtures, or maybe he just wants to load them up with thinset as he takes them off.

Jerry, I also think those are garbage bags. There wasn't anything until I asked him where his vapor barrier was. Then he removed the board and put the plastic up, lol.

wow, I am stunned by the tidal wave of colossal mistakes this guy is making.

He's a one man stimulus package, making more work for lots of other folks, including the local fire department.

I guess he's not going to finish out that tile over the tub with a bullnose or something, since that receptacle is in the way.

And as if the layout wasn't bad enough with the 1/2 tile above the two full tiles, that bottom row must be kicked out 1/2" at the bottom.

No Kevin, he was going to notch around the recepticle in bullnose, and then grout it to the plate.

haha

This thread is being dominated by those jokers, so I have to post about a recent job.

BIG local builder. One of the types that does 50+ homes in a development, people are moving in while all the others are being built around them. I get a call because the owners want to replace the fiberglass pans with mudsets. Seems the builder/tile company would rather not do it for some reason. I check out the job and it's 12x12 porcelain, not a piece of bullnose anywhere. Raw edges everywhere, not even an attempt at a miter anywhere. Same tile in every bathroom. In the master they go so far as to do a picture frame as a deco, then stick on white ceramic soap dishes.

After discussing price of doing just the bottom of shower, compared to the whole thing (where we can re-design and add niches), they opt for the whole shower. May also be doing the other 2 bathrooms as well.

During demo we find tile is on hardibacker (I was shocked to see it was not just sheetrock). But they did not tape/mud anywhere. They applied 1 think coat of 9235 but with no fabric (just enough to look like they were waterproofing, not enough to actually stop anything) Hardibacker was put on by a clown. Like one piece had 3 nails on the top, and that's it. Only thing holding it in place was the other board pressed against it. Tub was butting into the shower, and again, 3 nails on top, that's it.

During demo, the homeowner was doing a walk-through with someone, pointing out issues and they walk into the master bath. Ask me a few quiestions and I start pointing out the issues we were uncovering because if they are using this 'tile company' (and I use that term loosely) for all the other homes in this project, it's going to get ugly real fast.

Another guy behing the homeowner and the lead guy looks at me while talking and starts shaking his head NO, like I'm supposed to stop talking. LOL. I just smile and nod and keep on talking. That was kinda fun.
