Id rather not get paid.I charge 2-3 bills per niche.$h takes too much time.Ill give two free polished shelves.I figured these two added two days after it was alol said and done.
Like CX implies-whats it worth to you?I just dont feel justified chrging as much as I should for the work commenced in thes God-dayyam things!!!

I know that feeling L.T.
But don't worry it looks good, and since you got paid I assume the clients are happy. And in the end they are the ones we have to please. We are much harder to please with the work. We look at the stuff here.we see our flaws.

L.T. nice work and cash in hand No homeowner would really want to pay you for what it takes to put a niche in X2 like yours with the glass running through it unless they did it. The usual they see you like they see me going back and forth and back and forth. They say they had no idea just how much time it would take. What is a shower without the flare of a niche though. We know what it took you so Whoever invented niches I think we should k&^7k their ace for taking away shelves and less work
lets see some nachos in those nitchos, chips in one..... dip in the other.

Looks great, L.T., any sledgehammer would need to be mirror polished and wearing a tux to be worthy of smashing that.
Niches start @ $300, for a basic box, and go up quickly.
They're still a break even proposition at best.
As opposed to L.T.'s last pic- Tile porn.... money shot.

Lt, give yourself some credit those niches look awesome. the fact that you hate the little things only tile guys see and most can't judge makes you a cut above. wrapping those corners with the glass is some tough work.

Damn Gueuze, the thinset monster is oozing out of the wall!!Run for cover!!
Half the time when Im working on these intracies I feel exactly like this guy-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1Ugqh471IE
Except, its not a note. Its usually a cut that Ive had to walk back and forth from the saw to make, layout that didnt go exactly as projected,or a blob of grout/mortar that has sloppily fell off the trowel/float.

@ jondon
No I did not use anything unusual. I used Sakrete stone veneer mortar. Did a scratch coat on the concrete wall and put about a 1/2" flat bed on the back of the stone, took it to the wall, push and gave it a little twist, and as long as the mortar was not too dry, I had no problems even with the big stones sliding or sagging. I used a grout bag and the same mortar for the grout job.
These stones are a joy to work with, all random sizes shapes and colors, not many repeats. They do get ugly when there is mortar on them , as this customer had another guy do this same thing in her house around the fireplace, and it looks like he got mortar everywhere and tried to clean it off with a sponge. BIg No nO. I always work from the top down, because mortar falls down and this way my stones stay clean.
28 bags of mortar for this job.
A fair amount went off in the bucket, because of the heat.
In the end It looks awesome and the customers love it.
