OK to use Redgard before rubber shower pan liner

I have some left over paintable floor pan membrane. I was wondering if it would be alright to paint a layer of it down on the preslope shower pan before placing the rubber membrane down. I know its overkill, but I thought it would give it a smooth surface for the rubber membrane and an added second layer of defense. It says concrete must be 28 days old before adding paintable waterproof membrane. My preslope deck mud is 4 days old. Is that ok?

Hi Doug,

I see zero benefit for your added labor here. If your membrane never leaks, it's a moot point. And, if your membrane does leak, I don't think the RedGard is going to help any.

What's more, it may cause a problem that you or I haven't thought of, so I judge it to be a poor risk.
