Welcome, Janie.
No, don't jump in here with project questions, but start a new thread of your own. This one is just for questions about purchasing the Kerdi eBook. You'll get lost in here for sure.

Hi John....newbie here. Can I buy your book "Tile Your World" at my local bookstore. I posted a thread about my anxiety over installing a custom shower base and then I saw a little "preview" of your book. I would really like to get my hands on a copy but don't have time to wait for shipping.

Tile Your World is sold here, at Amazon.com and at Builders Booksource in Berkeley, California -- my only book store.

Just want to throw my two cent in here on the Kerdi Ebook. I was a little skeptical of paying for an Ebook but since it cost only a few bucks I keyed in my credit card and downloaded it. I must say the ebook is very good and the illustrations are awesome. A must read for anyone (like me) that is taking on a Kerdi project for the first time.

question about kerdi shower tray
I was going to use the shower pan at home depot 48" x 34" , but found it too deep for my application. I would prefer 48 x 32, (to allow more swing for an adjacent door)
My question. Should i cut the 48 x 48 kerdi foam shower tray to 48 x 32? I would of course cut 8" on both sides. I know this will make it not uniformly level on all four sides. Have you pro's done it this way?
Also, what seems to be the preference for substrate. sheetrock or cement board. I would think cement board gives a more sturdy base for the tile. Do you guys put plastic underneath too?
Thanks in advance.

cutting the kerdi tray
I've cut the kerdi tray with success being the slope is pretty shallow but be forwarned that the first course of wall tile will also be unlevel so be aware of that and make the allowance necessary.

Please, folks, post your questions to your own threads. This one is for discussion of The Kerdi Shower Book.

I purchased the ebook. Very helpful.
One question: Why not put sheetrock over the plywood of the bench? Under the curb section, you state "sheetrock will provide a much better bonding surface for the Kerdi membrane than will the framing lumber"

Hi,
You can sheetrock the bench. In fact, Schluter would prefer it.
You never tile directly to framing lumber for any reason. Framing lumber and plywood are not the same thing.

Thanks John,
Also, you mentioned versabond in your ebook. Is this okay for the kerdi to sheetrock/cement board or for the kerdi to tile. I plan on using cement board to kerdi to porcelain tile.
Thanks,
Byron

I use VersaBond when I can't find a really good quality dry-set mortar, which is a lot of the time. If I can get hold of Ditra-set I prefer it.

Question about the book
I am new to this post so please bear with me I wish not to offened anyone. I have read the advertisement for the book and I am interested in buying this book, need to know, does it give step by step directions from building the subfloor and walls to tiling a new walk in shower? No existing shower has been there before. It was a pantry. Already know the plumbing part of it. My husband and I are doing this job on our own so any good literature will help. I have bought lots of books but nothing goes into real detail.
Thank you, Jill
