Hi John,
I'm remodeling my 2nd bath and have read quite a bit about your Kerdi downloadable pdf. I think I read this, but want to confirm. Seems most questions about Kerdi were about building shower pans from scratch, but will this book help me w/ tiling a tub surround? I plan to tile from the tub to the ceiling and possibly the ceiling as well. Is Kerdi good for all that?
Thanks.

Kerdi is good for that, Jeff. Don't know that the book will say all that much about tubs, although tubs are covered.

Ok, thanks John. I may download it anyway as I assume that it covers
the application of Kerdi for wall tiling.

Hi Jeff,
I'm doing my tub surround with kerdi right now too. Well, I'm actually in the standing around stage, but....
The book does cover wall tiling. The bulk of it is showers, but there is a page or two on tub surrounds. It basically says "do the tub walls like a shower wall", but does cover a few details specific to tubs.

Beastly?!! You mean my nearly new, with a new cord (old one cut off by previous owner), and new manufacturer's handle reinforcement kit, and barely used blade toe-kick saw? That the one you're callin' beastly?
I'll let you borry it, though.
And stop clutterin' up this eBook thread with this sorta drivel, eh?

Hi CX, I remember that you did offer to loan it to me if I ever needed, and I really appreciate your generosity. But, I'm not ever getting near that thing again. I'll get by with a reciprocating saw. You have fun with Dracula.

Must Have
Just discovered Kerdi today and John's book at the same time. This is a must have with extremely detailed explainations and photos. Getting started this weekend and I feel much more confident after reading John's book.

Help!
OK, I've got a new construction shower. They've already installed greenboard in the shower. I was just getting ready to tile it when I did some internet research and ran accross this website.
Is it too late for the Kerdi Shower system?
Can I just put a Kerdi Membrane over the greenboard or should I rip out the greenboard and but in backerboard?
Any advice on what I should telll my tile guy on how to proceed? I live in the boonies in Arkansas and the local tile guys here haven't even heard of Kerdi!

Hey Jackson,
Welcome to the forum. What can we call you? I'm glad you found us.
First thing you should do is start your own thread on this project instead of using this one. You'll just get lost in here.
Since you have greenboard up, Kerdi would be an excellent choice for you. It does have a special - and very worthwhile - drain though, so you might have some re-work to do there.
Dave Taylor at www.tile-experts.com can deliver to your door everything you need to do a Kerdi shower.

Kan I do it myself with Kerdi?
Read John's book. Should have had a cold beer in hand while reading. What a great resource. Here is my issue. We have new construction with a 66" by 36" shower area. Still just studs and plywood. Have been looking for a good shower pan we can tile, but can't find one in this size. Kerdi looks like it would work with a bit of mud around the outsides of the standard Kerdi floor panels. My wife does not want to let me try it. I know I can do all the tile work and have done plenty of simple construction. A local tile guy wants $6,000 to do the shower. So, can I do it or is it too challenging? Any thoughts on extending 3" on each end and a couple inches on either side of the 60" standard floor panels? Thanks

Welcome, Dave.
Of course you can do the Kerdi shower yourownself. That's what we're here for.
But you must first start a project thread of your own here in the Advice forum. This thread is not a good place to discuss particular projects.
Start a thread and you'll get plenty help. Invite your spouse to join us so she'll see that you're not alone on this.
