I'm not normally the sort of person who takes pleasure at someone else's misfortune, but in this case it's hard not to feel a scad of satisfaction. Martha Stewart had the benefits of being a personable and subdued celebrity with the luxury of a minimum security *prison* in a beautiful setting. Young Paris is a nasty shallow and mean-spirited twit and she's going to jail in Lynnwood without any chance for alternative sentencing. I've got two dollars that says she gets punched in the head at least once while a guest of the city of Los Angeles. Any takers?

I'll bet there's a line of paparazzi visiting inmates and handing out cell cams. Huge bounty for the punch out. Actually I'll take the bet. She won'tbe in the general population.

Jim,
By my reading of what the judge said, he's maiking an example out of her and not pulling any punches himself. Lynnwood won't have the space to give her a private cell and it's not a "happy" crowd tro begin with. I'm sure that her lawyer is going to fight like hell to get her special treatment but if this first judge has his way she's in the general population.

PS: A case like this will have already had plenty of behind the scenes meetings between the local DA and his prosecutors. Throw in lots of calls from mayors, councilpeople and agents tossing gift baskets at whomever holds out their hand and I expect that this process and sentence has been completely hashed out ahead of time. Probably not a good chance that a sympathetic judge is going to even see the brief on this otherwise routine case.

Biting dust will be the least of her worries.
Remind me again how the plot line of "simple life" was developed into this?

I'm sure most of you are familiar with the Make A Wish Foundation. Not too long ago, they granted the wish of a young girl. I'm not sure what she was dying from, but her wish was to visit the clothes closet of Paris Hilton.
I was really bothered by that. On the one hand, the girl was dying, and that's what she wanted to do. On the other hand, I'm not all that eager to continue donating to a foundation that holds Paris Hilton up as something to be wished for. I know that they can't grant every child's wish. Surely there were some better ones than this. It's a shame that in her short life, that girl could not have aspired to something more.

Dan,
Even the most commited and serious of causes must take a moment to promote itself or it will be forgotten. Consider the "Paris Hilton clothes closet" wish to be an instance where they continued their mission while sapping a little bit of the notorious heiress' publicity. Lesser of two evils? Perhaps??

Maybe the foundation will decide to use Paris Hilton's clothes closet, courtesy of the Lynnwood County Jail instead?

I wonder after her short holiday at gray bar motel and surrendering herself to the resident Rosie O'Donnell. She will have a new perspective on partying with the girls.
