Well, that wasn't it.

Computer re-started itself over night, apparently for some sort of update, and I logged back on this morning. 'Bout an hour ago it did it's shut off thingy again and required a hard-stop-type power-off to correct.

And it wasn't covered. And I checked all the vents and they're very, very clean (again, the machine's first breath of life was only last February).

I'll hafta read some more of your link, Dan.

Well, now I've got a little prompt thingee at the very bottom right of my screen inviting me to do that very thing, Joe. Did you cause that?!!

I read those articles, Shawn, and thank you. Seems all their shut-downs are of a different sort than mine. I can still live with what I've got, but it bothers hell outa me to not know why it does that.

Anyone ever experience this? It has been popping up for a couple of months but it is happening more often. Sometime while I am watching a YouTube video or a Netflix movie, just surfing the net or just bringing it out of sleep mode, the % never changes and I normally get pissed off and turn it off and then turn it back on and all is well. Once of all the times that it has happened turn it off and back on and it popped back up and ran through its cycle the percentage changing and then back to normal.

Survey question: how many have upgraded to windows 11? My upgrade went pretty smoothly as in most of the other systems that I deal with. Few changes to the user interface but looks and performs pretty much the same.

Never seen that window, Shawn.

Yeah, PC, but you think buying new computers is fun, too.

No, I have not followed any of the prompts to upgrade to Windows 11. But I fully expect one day to have learnt to use Windows 10.

Our home computer, an old Dell desktop model, appears to be too old to run Windows 11, or so says Microsoft. I think it dates back to 2011. Recently "upgraded" with an SSD and GPU (bypassing the on-board GPU). It's fast enough.

Sorry, Shawn, no idea what that screen is about.

Dan, I agree, SSD are one of the best ways to improve performance and the almost immediate boot time are amazing.

Microsoft will continue to support at least one Windows 10 release until October 14, 2025. Just keep your patches up to date and you’ll have reliable and secure machine as it becomes old enough for high school!
