I installed this same drain about 3 years ago and had the same concerns about it not having weep holes. The drain was already installed in slab on grade when I started the job. My customer and I toyed with the idea of drilling weep holes but that side wall is a folded piece of metal and has no bottom. In other words if you drill through it it will leak right out the bottom of the drain. We thought about welding the whole bottom closed or even kerdi fixing it but in the end decided to leave it as is.
I agree, not the best design, but it seems to be holding up and working fine. That client is a close family friend so I have been able to see the job many times since, even house sat for him for a week. The shower floor looks fine. We used epoxy grout and he lives alone and uses it maybe once a day. Last I was there I noticed a little discoloration of the stone and grout around the drain but no way of knowing if its from the lack of weep holes or if it just needs a good cleaning. He's happy with it.

its probably from the water sitting up against the drain and not being able to drain off. grout discoloration will happen over time just as it would if weep holes were to get clogged in a regular drain.

the Laticrete linear drain I just installed has a flat top and I felt better using that style of drain.

I agree Brian, there are way better designs out there. Aco would be wise to re design that particular drain. I installed one of their linear drains that works with a standard 3 piece and it was a much better system and design and very nice looking. If your customers choose an Aco I would lean towards that one instead. Very well made, solid and easy to work with. But obviously it's too late for that on Matthews job at hand and not always an option either.

I guess drilling holes for weep would be the best in this case.

If you drill weep holes it will leak out the bottom.

ohh

I haven't looked at them. I just thought it was a metal lip up the
side to raise for tile height.

so is it rolled over metal ?

EDIT: ohhh I see now on the drawling.

bad design, I agree with Tom.
