got an oil ring on my new granite tile countertop

I sealed my ultimate brown granite with four coats of sealer. The instructions say that two to three coats is generally enough. I used about 2/3 a quart for about 30 square feet of granite.

Anyhow, I left an cooking oil bottle on the counter top over night the other day and only noticed it left an oil ring stain there. I tried to clean it up with soap and water, including dish soap and water. It has been there for three days now, and I think it is going to be permanent stain. ugh.

Is there any way of getting rid of this stain? Does this mean I need more coats of sealer?

I am afraid to use my counter now thinking I might stain it some more

Maybe this will work, you can also try baking soda the same way.

Oil can be rough to get out. Apply a poultice with methelyne cholride if a regular poultice doesnt do it. Did the sealer you applied say that it would work on oil as well as water? Not all of them do. Who makes it?

It was a brand the tile company had on hand. It was no national chain brand like Tile lab or anything.

the sealer said it protects against oil and water, and suggested tests to show when the granite has enough sealer on it. I figured four coats ought to be enough. Did the test and it appeared fine. (apparently not!) The sales person appeared very knowledgeable and recommended this product, as well as Tile Lab, which she gave equal lip service to.

I will try the poultice tonight first with baking soda. Aquamix is hard to find here, unless I get it online.

Dear Tony:
An impregnator/sealer for stone - no matter how good - will make your stone stain-resistent, NOT stain-proof. You can't leave a wet bottle of oil sitting on a granite countertop overnight!
As for the removal of the stains, don't bother with any of the "poulticing kits" you could find available at tile stores, etc. Just poultice your stone with baby powder and Acetone. Methylene Chloride is good at that, too, but man ... the farther I stay from that stuff, the better I feel!! (It makes you see beautiful colors, though!! )
Ciao and good luck,
