DIY Walkin shower

I am putting in a Walkin shower myself and the shower floor will be L shaped - is there a company that provides custom shower pans that can slope to my drain location at my Size?

Also the shower will have a seat and can that be part of a custom shower pan?

I have the elect and plumbing done so would it be better to put the pan in first prior to adding pony wall?

Welcome to the forum, Lou.

I'm not familiar with specific manufacturer that could make a pan to fit your needs, but if there is one, a pan of that size and shape would be quite expensive. For probably less than $100 in materials, you could make a shower pan out of deck mud. It would take you about a half day to get it all put in, and would likely save you several hundred dollars, if you think you could tackle it. Many others have done with no experience at all, and had good results with it.

Someone else might be familiar with a company that could make a pan like you're wanting.

Typically, a seat is built before the pan. You can do the pan first, but trying to build the bench on top of a sloped floor just makes for another challenge. My recommendation is to do the seat first.

Where would the pony wall go?

Your shower, due to its size and shape, is not going to lend itself to the installation very many prefabricated materials. Many custom showers rely on the installer to build the floor, benches, and sometimes even a soap dish or niche. It takes a little extra time, but you get exactly what you want instead of trying to work with something prefabricated that wasn't really made for that use.

Hi Lou. First of all, I want to make sure what you mean by 'custom shower pan'. Are you wanting a pre made poured fiberglass, resin or acrylic type shower base or are you wanting a pan liner that will be covered with mud and tile?

Thanks - I was planning to construct the pony walls as shown in picture and then create the slopped shower wall but wanted to see what my options are first

I was thinking the pan would be slopped fiberglass ready for tiling.

Your layout is definitely going to have to be an in place custom shower pan. Any prefab solution is going to be wildly cost prohibitive/impractical if it's even available (doubtful). There are some prefab foam bases that can be modified but I don't know if you could link them together in a way to make the L shape you have there slope correctly. Really as mentioned above deck mud is super cost effective and super solid.

What is your plan for waterproofing and shower pan type? I see a clamping style drain there on the floor which would suggest a liner but a liner would be tricky to implement in that configuration. Is the clamping drain already bonded to the plumbing? Your config lends itself to a tileable surface membrane which would require a different drain although schlutter does make an adapter for a clamping drain.

Lou, the pony walls would need to be built first and then the pan made to fit the walls.

I can't see a one piece fiberglass pan being made to fit perfectly within the space you have. I just don't see it dropping right in place and fitting. Maybe I'm wrong. With the shape you have, most installers would use a sheet type or paint on pan liner.

Are you wanting it to be curbless ?
