retile or tear out shower pan
Been to this forum many times for info, but just registered and this is my first time posting. I've been doing gen. construction and lots and lots of tile for about 28 years, but have somehow mostly avoided shower pan issues. Poured my first two pans a few years ago after much research on this site (thanks) and so far so good. I have a question about a possible repair. The house was built in the seventies. A rarely used shower stall (2nd bathroom) has a few row of bottom tiles that need to come out, but while I was looking at it I noticed a crunching under my feet. The tile on the pan is loose. It's typical 70s mosaics being held together very well by the grout. But it wants to come out, and from the sound of it, pretty easily. I guess my question is has anyone out there removed and retiled a pan without ripping out the whole thing? Of course, I wouldn't know what kind of shape it's in till I take those tiles off, but just wondering if it's been done. Seems like a reasonable proposition...thanks.
