Replacing A Hole In Ceramic Tile Shower Wall

Good morning all,

I have a leak in the pipes of my shower at the handle valve. Master Plumber says I have to cut open the wall in order to source the leak properly. This is no problem to me.

The problem I'm having is how to replace the hole I cut into a ceramic tile wall. Can I just California Patch the wall underneath the tile then lay new tile on top?

Any kind of advice would help. This is at a residential facility, the tiles on the wall are small 1 cubic inch tiles. Anything appreciated, thank you.

John

Hi John, welcome. Can this fix be done from the back side of the wall? If not I would cut the hole just big enough to get the fix done. After it is done you will need to patch the hole with CBU or Kerdi board then put the tile on and grout.

Does the valve assembly have a cover/trim plate, John? I'd start by removing that to determine where the leak actually is. Alternatively, can you get to the valve from the other side of the wall just to have a look? The leak may not be where the MP thinks it is.
