Rust and Mildew on stone shower tile

I had a stone shower installed two years ago I notice rust appearing on the grout I would clean and it would go away. I had my tile person come back in a couple of months ago and cleaned the whole floor and resealed now i am getting rust and black spots mostly in back of shower not very happy. I feel I should not be seeing this at all especially after resealed. What should I do?

Hi Anne, welcome. It's hard to say but I have seen iron deposits in the stone that will rust. I have also seen certain grouts leave black spots.

Do you know what brand of grout was used?
Do you know how the tiles were installed, what's behind the tiles?
What sealer was used?

The rust is iron oxide which is a common mineral in stone. Looking at the mold pattern I wonder if it isn't the mounting adhesive causing an issue. Sealer might slow the water from going in but doesn't do anything for the moisture already there which has a tougher time getting out.

The mounting adhesive is what was used to fasten the stones down. Do you know what was used?

You would need to replace the shower floor.

Anne, 10-12 years ago I had to replace a shower that I had put in less than a year earlier due to the iron in the Limestone. I think it's safe to say the rust on your shower floor is from the same. Not sure about the black.
