Hi Allen, it will be fine as long as the thinset was not mixed too dry. 3/16 trowel is a bit small for Ditra. You can use a worn 1/4" or a Ditra trowel.

Well a night has pased, and in the spots where the ditra over hangs the plywood slightly, I can pull on it.. and feel as tho i could peel off the entire sheet...

Is that normal?

Other question, If i do peel off the entire sheet.. can i reuse it after scraping the thinset off the plywood?

Thanks guys

Matching sharp cut edge with factory edge

Hi everyone,

I've been searching everywhere, but can't find the answer i'm looking for.

I'm laying 13x13 porcelain tile right now, and there are a few areas, where I will need the cut edge of a tile to be visible and want to bevel the edge to match the factory edge.

How can I do this?

Hi Allen, diamond hand pads can accomplish the bevel.

Wet dry sandpaper is easy to find and will work in some situations. The trusty tile stone is the go to and found in most tile sections in your box stores.

Hi Brian, yes it is a glazed porcelain... Will that cause a problem because the glaze will be gone?

Yes, Ultra Contact is modified, Kerabond is un mod. If you're looking to use it over kerdi or ditra, kerabond is great for that.

I have used Ultra Contact over ditra many times but it will void your schluter warranty and possibly take a lot longer to dry than an unmod. Ultra Contact is a medium bed which is nice sometimes.
Kerabond is great though.

Need some expert help here

Hey guys.

So I tiled my kitchen over a year ago. Approximately 2 months ago, a couple tiles starting "popping". Today I decided to pull them up to investigate.

I attached some pictures.

The backs of the tiles are clean as a whistle, however when i looked at the thinset on the ditra, there is a mirror image of the back of the tile. Possibly skimmed over prior to laying the tile? if that was the case why would it take nearly a year to begin "popping"?

Another thing i noticed is when i started chipping away at the thinset, it came pretty cleanly off of the ditra.

Another possibility; if you notice it is white thinset. Do they make unmodified white thinset? I remember sending my wife to the store to buy more thinset and she came back with the white stuff saying that the store ran out of the grey so they gave her white.

My questions;

Am i going to continue having problems with more tiles? or could this be an isolated problem area? It should be noted that this is the highest traffic area in the kitchen.

How do i fix this problem?

Thanks for the help guys!
