White film on new shower floor

Good morning,

My friend recently had some new tile installed in her shower (within the past 30 days). She has noticed that there's a white film that she can't get to come off of the tiles and her floor guy tells her that it wont come off. The shower has been used.

I'm wondering if you guys might be able to help identify the problem and maybe point her toward a solution.

I can't tell much from the picture you posted. If it's not the tile, it would have to be the grout, or the sealer if one was used, or it's possible something was introduced later like soap or conditioner.

I agree, its tough to see.
How was the shower built?
What products were used? (Thinset, grout, sealer, type of tile?)
City or well water?
What kind of soap/shampoo does she use?

Just looking at the film in the picture it seems to surround the drain for the most part which would lead me to think that it's shampoo or soap. I would think that if it was grout or sealer the film would extend into the corners and be everywhere and maybe show application/wipe down patterns.

Was the tile sealed? I wonder if it's porous and it's capturing shampoo or soap as Kevin mentioned.

There looks to be alot of it running down the wall on the left side and accumulating on the floor.

Take a rag, pour some vinegar on it, and rub it on one of the tiles to see if you can remove any of the film. It may take some scrubbing, and be careful of the grout...acid can eat it. When done, rinse well. Let us know what happens.
