If it were my project I'd really try to find a drop-in style tub that would work in the area available rather than trying to frame around the front of a apron-front tub.

Hi Rob,
I agree with Pete. I think trying to tile the front of a standard tub will look cheesy.

Agreed, if I can't find a tub with the removable skirt and lips on sides and rear I won't do it. The thing is I've seen pictures of it done and wonder how the long term effect was.
Thanks

Redgard or Hydro Ban?
Which liquid membrane do you prefer and why?
Thanks,
Rob

Laticrete, the makers of Hydroban have an excellent warranty, great people working for them, and the most excellent customer support.

Any negatives to using Redgard? Where I live, Hydro Ban is twice as much.
Thanks

Nothing at all wrong with RedGard if it's applied per the manufacturer's instructions.

CX, is there any specific step that I need to pay close attention to? I've read and seen the video.
Thanks

Rob,
I don't mean to sound glib, but follow all of the steps. When using liquid membranes the thickness of the application and curing time is critical.

Cutting 1/2" Hardibacker
How do most of you cut your 1/2" Hardibacker? I hear from some people that scoring and cutting the 1/4" is fine but the 1/2" is hard. I think I need a carbide blade for that. Saw? I heard that saws create a lot of dust and aren't good for the saws themselves.
So, how do you guys do it?
thanks!

I haven't used Hardie board in a while, but this little tool helps to score and snap it. It does help to make a few passes with it before trying to snap it. I've also used a Sawzall with a cheap blade I don't mind ruining; less dust than a circular saw.
I did use the new Wonderboard Lite on my bath project and was able to score the 1/2" board with a utility knife and snap it just like drywall.

Removing vinyl floor adhesive
I'm removing the vinyl floor and want to know what you guys use to remove the adhesive and paper backing? I have no problem removing the vinyl but I got some paper and adhesive scatterd around now. I've read that some use heat guns and other use an adhesive remover solution. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Rob
