Hello, all. Long time reader, first time poster! We are laying new 12" tiles in a small bathroom. This is not our first tile job, but we consider ourselves amateurs nonetheless
What we have is a 1960's house. The bathroom floor is solid-as-a-rock 1" mosaic tiles on slab. There was a layer of linoleum which we've removed and we're planning on laying the new 12" tiles on the existing mosaics. Most of the mosaics still have the original glaze to them. We attempted to rough up the surface using two different methods -- 60 grit sandpaper and also aluminum oxide 36 grit sanding disc. The mosaic still has a glaze.
Is it safe to tile over this? I've done a search, and haven't found this exact question. Thanks for your help.
