I'm curious how flat he got that wall without any screeds, Clifton.

It's two coat because the first is a rough coat, the second the finish coat. This is in a place where we are painting. In the main room, we'll have tile 7 feet up, and then plaster for the 2 feet above.

I put an 8 foot level on it, and it is within ~1/8" of flat. It looks flat to the eye. I never saw him use a trowel longer than about 12 to 16 inches. Finding someone who can do work like this is rare. But it is appropriate to the house and feels like the right way to go. And it is really beautiful to see.

In the pics, first he put up lath and plastered the hole left from demo - you can see the initial scratch coat. Then he added a brown coats and instead of adding the finish coat, he put the wire over the whole thing to do a two coat layer on the whole wall.
