Mud on Mud?

Can a leveled layer of deck mud, say 2"-2.5" thickness, be installed and allowed to dry then a second screed and slope layer be applied AND have those layers bond? I have a 78"x57"x36"[x 4" depth] area requiring 300+ lb of deck mud that I'm not sure I can mix and apply in one step without having it setup before completing the whole screed/slope/smooth process.

Tie it in with a slurry coat of thinset and you should be good to go.

I think that amount is very doable by you in one application. If you can, do it on a rainy day, mud will take longer to cure. And do what you can to keep the temp down.

300# of mud isn't very much
