New Shower Install Ideas

Hi all

The wife has demanded a new shower to replace the one in the picture. It is currently a one-piece fiberglass shower.

I'm looking for ideas on replacing this. The dimension of the space (including drywall) is 46" x 38". Without the drywall the width would increase by 1" (1/2" drywall installed).

The original plan was to purchase an acrylic shower system with prefabricated walls and base but standard size is 48" and that's too large for this space. I'm trying to keep costs down so special ordering is out of the question.

I've read about Kerdi and Durock systems as well as straight mud. What would you recommend for this space?

Thanks in advance for you input,
Adam

Welcome, Adam.

I recommend the USG Durock Shower System membrane and drain with a deck mud floor. Available through Amazon, even.

My opinion; worth price charged.

Any of the surface applied membranes such as the system above are superior to a traditional method IMHO

If you're gonna use that system, ditch the foam. The foam is not superior to a mud bed.
