Clear Tile Coating with Grit

Howdy:

The tiled entry way at my folk's river home has always been slippery, but it now getting dangerous because of their age. Aren't there some clear coatings with grit in them that can be applied to the tile? Any recommendations?

Thanks. Don't want no broken hips.

Hi, John. Welcome.

I don't know of clear coat coatings applied to the top of tiles. But I have seen chemical products that will microscopically etch the surface of the tile and increase the tile's coefficient of friction. Type something like: "tile anti slip etching" or the like into google for some products. I first heard of these at Covering Trade Show a number of years ago. But never used them. Do pay specific attention to the directions and make sure to not get it anywhere you don't want etched. I haven't seen any of these products on the shelves in a long time...but can't say I've been looking either.

John, I did a quick search on etching and ran across this product which can be applied over existing tile to increase the COF.

Yeah, cleaning might be tougher.

But cleaning might be a lot less painful and less expensive than a broken hip. There's always a trade-off.

Waleed, you'll do better with these very old threads to try to contact the OP through a PM rather than dredging up the thread. John, for example, has not visited our site for more than seven years. Will he get an email notification of a PM? Maybe. Will he see your question on this thread? Very unlikely.
