Yeah, Dave.

I'm still not believing that the secret service could have possibly spent 100 million dollars for a week long trip. That can't be right. That's the equivalent of employing 52,000 people at a rate of $100,000/year salary for the week. Never-mind all the real costs involved...this is just a quick hypothetical number to have something to reference to.

Please tell me 100 million dollars for a week long trip (just the cost of the secret service) is a typo!

Well,Bush and his wife made several trips to Africa, and shelled out 50 mil for at least one.He also gave Africa about a bil.$ in aid.
Only difference i guess is we weren't in a recession then.

Thanks Dave and John for the confirmation...

Wow.

Just.....Wow!

Utterly staggering.

The equivalent of (100) $1,000,000 mansions...spent on a week long trip to Africa.

The equivalent of 2,857 years of tuition in a private $35,000/year college....spent on a week long trip.

The equivalent of 1,562 brand new Cadillac Escalades....spent on a week long trip.

You could even buy this $75 million cruise ship and have enough leftover to buy this $25 million cruise ship as well. Really? Instead, the tax payers are saddled with a $100,000,000 week long trip. Hope we negotiated a super awesome deal on something that will benefit the US in some way. Yeah...wishful thinking, I know.

Is it that folks don't know (I sure didn't) or don't care that this is going on? Are we so desensitized because we hear about a handful of ball players make 50 million dollars that this doesn't "seem" like a lot to enough folks? Where is the outrage? I'm absolutely stupefied. $100,000,000 is a third of what Miller Park cost to build for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2001. Is a week long trip by the president worth a third the cost of this major league baseball stadium? Is a week long trip worth two cruise ships paid in full? Or any of the above comparisons?

Bubba,i would tell you how big the debt is but i think you'd have a heart attack.
Here's just a sneaky handout tidbit from the Prez.last week Barack Obama felt that it was so important to send $500,000,000 to the Palestinian Authority that he signed a national security executive order last Friday that enabled him to get around an act of Congress that was intended to prevent him from sending that money to them.

Yeah, it's astronomical.

Speaking of the debt, one excuse I keep hearing over and over again from the talking heads is that, "The debt is so enormous that even if X or Y program was cut, it wouldn't make any significant dent in the deficit, so why bother?" Wow, what a poor train of logic. It's that very lack of reasoning that allowed all those smaller numbers to be stacked up into a huge number.

Earth to brain, come in brain....

Yep, their logic is astounding. They don't want to cut anything. So the train will continue it's path downhill till it flies off the tracks. The debt already cannot mathematically be paid back, when you add in unfunded liabilities, and the baby boomers retiring.

And another thing.
How can the debt be unchanged for 70 days? These numbers are being manipulated also to avoid the debt ceiling. The govt.is no better than the mafia,it has completely gone corrupt.

I was listening to the radio today and there were two stories that I found a bit ironic. Both stories involved innocent people being annihilated in Iraq. Both involved someone potentially being sentenced to life in prison.

One for committing the crime.

The other for exposing the covered up crime.

We now know that Iraq didn't have weapons of mass destruction, the original Benghazi story was a bunch of lies, the government is actually spying on us, and even Area 51 exists.

So now I find myself asking these questions: Were there actually chemical attacks in Syria? Was Assad behind them? Is this actually the reason an attack is being considered?

Jim, here is a list of reasons that may be behind our desire for more intervention where what is happening is really none of our business:

http://www.lewrockwell.com/lrc-blog/...after-another/

In fact, the entire mess is most likely the result of our covert meddling in order to "justify" overt intervention.

The lies you mentioned are but a few of the numerous lies used by our government to justify wars of aggression in places we had no legal or moral right to be---going clear back to the 1890's--Remember the Maine.

Our current foreign policy which has it's roots back in the 50's, and has been escalating since the fall of the Soviet Union can not end well for our country. It is very important to realize that the government is not the country, and in fact spends much of it's time actively working against the best interests of our country.

Change in direction needs to happen soon, and it can only be accomplished from the bottom up. With the "nanny state" maximizing and solidifying its hold on the masses, it is doubtful that any change can happen until the SHTF, and by then, it will be too late. Our government will then be waging war on it's own population while much of the world will be aligned against us.

I agree with all that, John, except for this part:

That should not be expressed in the future tense. While there has not been much overt military action against us as yet, the government is certainly already waging war on the citizenry in other, more subtle, ways. I think there is no question that it is already us against them and the smart money is currently not on us as the winning side at this juncture.

You are right of course, CX--I was referring to the overt stuff like troops in the streets mowing down protesters and FEMA camp round ups.
