Same problem with that shower. Homeowner didn't have the money to gut it.
She contacted the contractor demanding money back and he told them to get in line because he hadn't paid his mortgage in 3 months.
So she's going the way of the courts.

lol, gotta love the clamping drain clamping the plywood..nice one Greg. I suspect alot of insurance agents get pay offs from some contractors..thats why they want to use the same companies...they call it there "preferred contractors". Its a shady business.

Mastic used on bathroom floor over Hardi. Only two screws under that tile on the seem. No other screws in that square foot.
|
great rip out we did today.
plenty-o-mistakes.
mastic used on Fiberock, Fiberock starting to rot. studs swelling.

nail holes on top of curb and inside of curb through the pan liner
no pre slope, shower floor had cracks in it from the mud being 3/4" at the drain.
it pretty much was flopping around
5-6 nails in right corner, 8 on left, none in the middle
water also wicking up Fiberock from pan not draining.
thinset didnt stick to Fiberock
thinset didnt stick to sub floor, maybe 4-5 nails per sheet if that.
easy rip out. whole bathroom took 5 hours.

In the fourth pic that looks more like sheetrock rather then fiberrock.

Im curious Brian, we all know the rates are lower in florida as a rule..what kinda rate have youv'e been able to command for a basic ceramic shower. How much do you start out with for a shower.
Not trying to pry I just think that with all the cheap slashjobs down there it has to be hard to get compensated for your advanced skill level.
Me Ive had to drop my number from 2000 base price a shower down to as low as 1500 if I really need the work..mainly because the box stores are allowing a new breed of hacks into the workforce and at the same time undercutting and shutting down the independant flooring stores who had mediocre quality..not to mention the f'd up economy.
It is rare to see any good quality work in my area these days..and that goes for other trades as well. Its getting worse everyday it seems.

Well I hope your making decent money..you should. If not then just show some of these pictures to your potential clients...it's enough to scare anyone into opening up the checkbook me thinks.

Read their instructions, Levi. They don't even require a moisture barrier behind the board for wet areas, and the TCNA method directed at it (W247) doesn't indicate one, either. Curious, because it never claims to be waterproof.
I've never seen the stuff. Got no eye-dee.

it's identical to hardibacker. very thirsty, probably why the other installer didnt get a good bond. you need to wet, use a primer or skim it first.
