Today we hung some Kerdi Board over some really out of plumb walls. Dot setting with PL Premium, and back scoring the boards allowed us to set them perfectly plumb with crisp corners. 3 Screws were needed to hold the sheets into place. The seams were silicone caulked before RGing.

What do you mean?
Are you back cutting and folding for the inside corner with a full sheet.

Yes Kevin, We slit the back side as to fold the sheet around the corner. Since the corner doesn't have foam in it, it needs to be banded or RG'd. But you get a perfect corner. That is why the right side to center back wall is one piece and the left side to center back is another piece. The normal thing to do is to make each as a separate piece.

Paul,
How out of plumb were the walls? I have a bad shower that is 1 1/4 out in 7 feet! I was going to sister all the studs but if I could plumb it like you did, it would be way faster.
I see you used silicone. Is that the 3 hour drying product? And is it basically used as a filler for the r-guard?
Sweet prep!!

There is a video on youtube where a guy uses blobs of thinset on some wonky studs to set his Kerdi board plumb and flat.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gX2jmQj4C1Q
Technique starts at about 8:45 in if you want to skip his long winded introduction.

He makes it sound like Ardex approves of that method, too, and I seriously doubt that's the case.

the wall waved in-n-out half an inch. I'm a dabs of PL every 8 inches. The silicone seals the foam to the foam and provides some backer for the red guard.
Somewhat carefully typed on teensy cell phone keys.

For the record, when I took the Schluter course I specifically asked if they would warranty Kerdi board installed with only Kerdi fix to the studs - no screws. They said that it wasn't an approved installation method.
It seems to me that I read somewhere that it is ok to plumb the kerdiboard with Kerdi fix to the studs , like Paul did, but you still have to go back the next day and screw it off like normal. Consider this a rumor until someone can verify.

I can't imagine trying to Kerdi fix 1 1/4 inches.
