Little update.....

We finally sold our house last spring. Ended up moving out of our town and into the county to the east of us. I'm now a little over a half hour from my snow route vs 5 min from any of my properties like I used to be. The company I plowed for doesn't have any accounts in my new area so I'm a man without a country. I decided to take this winter off. First winter in 11 years I wasn't jumping into a plow truck or loader.
We haven't had significant snowfall this season. Only 2 real major events, one in the beginning of the season at 6" and the big one a few weeks ago at 24". They called me for the 24" a few days before it hit to see if I was available to help out. I said sure, why not. It hit on a Friday night into Sunday afternoon so the timing was right. Got about 30hrs in and some nice pocket change.

It was weird the first few times this season when it started snowing, I kept looking out the window like I always did and the wife kept telling me to stop cause nobody was going to call me.☹️ I do miss it but I don't if that makes any sense. I loved the guys I plowed with and I miss the ball busting on the 2 way radios. If my route was a bit closer I might have considered staying on but with the travel and moving in to the new house I needed a break.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed the play by play of snow events we had here in Rochester and the pics of stuff I did to clear lots. Most people don't know the behind the scenes stuff that goes on and what's involved to do the job we do. It was fun sharing. I very much enjoyed bantering back and forth with Shawn and watching his operation in Kansas. We both move snow and melt ice but in very different ways and quantities. I always looked forward to Mullets "very cool" responses to my pics. 😁

So ,from now on, I will live vicariously through Shawn's new skid steer and salt trucks to get my snow fix!

At least I have some actual snow this year as oppose to little piles my dog could produce. I pretty much stay near the skid and it is on a federal building lot so I can't fly my drone. Guy in the snow next to me had a skid steer rodeo and was dumping snow off of the 3rd deck of a parking garage. I went out and filmed that got a couple of stills, no idea why but the video is curupted and won't play back I will ipload the picture when I get around the house. We just had a 6incher so I am out relocating snow and skids doing service calls. I almost got 4 hours sleep in the last 3 days. The picture is from the security guard at the fed. Had a guy plowing once go radio silent for about a hour. I tracked him down and pulled up. He pushed into a pile then fell asleep. The truck was running and still in drive.

Snow is a stressful Game especially if you have more than one piece of equipment and guys working for you. In the past years we haven't had as many events as this year has brought and normally you have time in between to regroup rest and repair. This year it has been back to back and no time to put things back together or put just enough to get by and have the other guys stay at the shop and help the mechanic. And that goes for the zone as a whole. A guy guy night before last slid down a hill backwards and crumbled his spreader shut up like a bag of chips. 1100.00 f-ing dollars for the chute assembly. 2 days ago I started a truck just it was 4 days cold ran fine come out snow flying and click nothing. F†ck me batteries are toast. Tear them out throw them in the back head to the battery place get there and the batteries are gone, fell out of the back of the truck on the way. Core charges oh well. Install them drive and the 4x4 is making so much noise I thought the front end was going to fall off. Took it out of 4x4 and it was stuck in. Drove it to the property told the guy to meet me there also plow slow and drive it falls apart know that what ever it is it is probably damaged everything else so I will rebuilt it completely just got to get the lots done

LOL, Yeah I make Mullet nets and some bait nets, 8' up to 14'.

I sometimes thought the next piece of equipment bought should be a tow truck.

I hear ya about back to back to back events. The snowfall amount we get is not conducive to pulling pieces of equipment out for routine maintenance or regular repairs. Some of our older stuff is held together with hope and bubble gum. It's go go go until something catastrophic happens. 2 years ago we had all of our stuff out for 18 days consecutive days. About day 12 lots of shit started to break. Hydro lines on augers and spinners, chains on gears snapping and cutting edges on the pushers ripping off.

How about this one, nobody ever told me this but I tell all my guys and especially the skid drivers. Make sure you plow with your mouth shut and teeth clinched. If you have ever hit a man hole cover or a water access you know what I am talking about.

We got 3 in a couple of days ago. Got through the storm with no real problems. Everything was supposed to be tight minus a couple of properties that had a little bit of clean up and a spot salt for refreeze(scraping with the skids) so I took just my trucks and skids first property I roll up to I come around the corner to this disaster. We have certain things that we just don't do when plowing snow commercially, don't block dumpsters, loading docks, fire hydrants, and make sure the handicap parking spots are clean. This asshole took the whole property to the handicap stalls. This is why I get so many hours out of a storm, cause people just don't listen. The kicker is that I drove a property 2 doors down and didn't go by here because they had called about the dumpster and sidewalk droppings but nothing about this mess, I sent the sub to clean those up and nobody said anything about the handicap cap needing a snowmobile to get out of their spot. Every single handicap spot was full of snow. 16 of them
